ABOUT

Joeaby Vassallo is a designer and strategist who uses the design process to shape identity and communication, defining meaning, sharpening language, and building structure that holds.

His work is rooted in observation: paying close attention to what is actually happening, naming the pattern, and translating intent into language, structure, and identity that people can act on and relate to. Identity is treated as something lived rather than declared, expressed through decisions, behaviour, and the way a message meets its audience.

Joeaby’s focus revolves around the themes of identity, culture, and communication. However, the method stays consistent: diagnose the bottleneck, build the structure, and calibrate tone. The result is coherent, culturally grounded and built to last.

He is Director and Co-founder of I+A Limited (2018–current), an architectural design studio based in Malta, where he oversees finance, administration, and communications. On behalf of I+A, he has co-founded and co-leads FiftySix Design Talks, a collaboration with the Valletta Cultural Agency, an ongoing platform that applies the same approach by building cultural identity through structure, curation, and deliberate communication.

Alongside studio leadership, Joeaby has maintained a longstanding practice in brand and graphic design, developing identities, visual systems, and editorial work with a focus on clarity, craftsmanship, and strategic storytelling. He is also a Tutor at the University of Malta (2021–current), teaching the fundamentals of graphic design and brand identities.

Trained as an architect, Joeaby graduated in 2012 in Architecture and Civil Engineering (Hons), specialising in Urban Design at the University of Malta, and has been warranted as a Perit since 2015.
