Design Is a System, Not a Visual

Design is the ultimate tool – and I don’t mean visuals, but the system.

My architecture training has embedded the design process as a default go-to. For a building, we assess the context, create using models and plans, test, review and repeat. Design in and of itself is a repeatable reasoning framework, not a domain-specific expertise.

This system has also worked for me when I worked on brand identities, event planning and also other problem solving. I love using it mostly to overhaul operations using the same process: audit the existing situation, create structure through the use of diagrams and tables, test and review.

Design provides a system that outperforms impulsive decision making and provides a structured test-pad for intuition alongside more technical solutions.
